The Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) by a commission few years ago remain unchanged, refuting rumours that some tanker operators have been raising rates following the fuel price hike. It added that approved costs for the owners of tankers is one baisa per gallon for tankers less than 700 gallons and 3 baisas per gallon for tankers with capacity more than 700 gallons. The authority distributes water to small tanker owners at 650 baisas for tankers with capacity of 650 gallons, and RO 3 for tankers with capacity of 1,000 gallons.

Zahran al Rashdi, General Manager, Customer Services at the Public Authority for Electricity and Water, said: “The authority is working hard to distribute water for all beneficiaries with lowest price as possible and seeks tanker owners to stick with the current prices.” He added that the authority is currently discussing with government institutions and authorities such as Muscat Municipality, Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources and the Public Authority for Consumer Protection to determine the price of water for homes and other beneficiaries.

Zahran also noted that through the implementation of “Suqia” programme, the authority ensures that a customer has to pay only RO 3 for water tanker with a capacity of 650 gallons. ‘Suqia’ programme helps the authority to distribute water to residential areas not connected to the water network, through water tankers.
